Applying to be a midwife - my personal experiences

Here you can read about how discriminatory the application process as a midwife with a child and the experiences were before I founded MORE MIDWIVES

I found this photo again by chance. On this day I received confirmation of my midwife training!

After two rejections, I finally got the job. I can still remember my first interview very clearly. I was asked whether I could imagine doing the training with our first, small child and how I had arranged childcare. I told them that the child's father was there and could step in during working hours. My answer was: "The men are sometimes gone faster than you can blink." Finally, I got the rejection.

Some time has now passed and the training is over. We have walked the path together as a family and I am very happy to be able to work independently as a midwife. As a family we also launched the project that is close to our hearts, MORE MIDWIVES. But when I look back: working mothers have to work twice as much, if not three times as much. Not only does a lot need to change in the midwifery profession (better working conditions and funding), but something also needs to be done for working mothers. More support in all areas. The statement in the interview should not have been: "the men are gone faster than you can blink", but: "here are contact points for working mothers or our company offers these opportunities for working mothers. If you need support, get in touch."
