MORE MIDWIVES – MORE THAN JUST A FASHION LABEL

What is MORE MIDWIVES?

MORE MIDWIVES is a fashion label run by midwife Lena and her partner. Together, they create creative, trendy and colourful styles to confront society with the acute problems faced by midwives, in obstetrics, and consequently by birthing people and families. All of this with the right dash of feminism and humour.

Who are the founders of MORE MIDWIVES?

Lena trained as a midwife for 3 years and, after some practical experience and a background in design, works as a freelance midwife in Berlin and now again in the delivery room. She is an expert on all aspects of birth, pregnancy and the postpartum period. Her partner has an e-commerce background and supports the brand's development from a sales perspective. This brings together the best of two worlds.

Is MORE MIDWIVES the original?

Here you can see our word and figurative mark, as registered with the German Patent and Trademark Office. It is an expression of our design, style, messaging and name. Were we the first? The only truth is: Yes! Our caps were the first to make Midwife Merch famous. And really famous! You can see this in the highlights of @holabirth and @moremidwives. Over 30,000 fans already, that's incredible!

Do you actually make midwife merch?

The term "midwife merch" is composed of "midwife" and "merchandise" and refers to clothing & midwife supplies designed specifically for midwives. Yes, the fashion label also offers high-quality midwife merch that represents and supports the midwifery profession. However, the MORE MIDWIVES fashion label also addresses topics such as birth, women, children, society, everyday hospital life and the situation of students.

Is political midwife merch only about visibility for midwives?

Our midwife merch aims to think beyond just addressing the problems of midwives, but also, from this perspective, the problems of related healthcare professions, the fashion industry, and women in society. MORE MIDWIVES' messaging leaves classic obstacles in design and impact behind. Together with you, we get a little better at this every day!

What's the deal with the MORE MIDWIVES Cap?

It all more or less started in the stressful everyday life of a midwife. Between numerous home visits, the founder Lena had enough: she wanted to draw attention to the unfair payment of midwives in relation to their performance. She literally wrote "MORE MIDWIVES" in a knitted pattern on a first cap!

What is the goal?

Creating visibility for midwives and birth with MORE MIDWIVES means one thing above all: education instead of pity and real structural reforms instead of empty words. Being a midwife is not a hobby, but a recognized, highly qualified professional occupation based on sound expertise and maximum personal responsibility. Whether in antenatal care, support in the delivery room, or sensitive postnatal care – midwives make vital professional decisions every day and bear responsibility for families during one of the most formative phases of their lives.

But precisely this responsibility requires sustainable structures. When societal and political frameworks fail, this has not just individual consequences, but leads to profound structural deficiencies that directly burden birthing individuals, children, and entire families.

The current discourse, for example, surrounding healthcare reform and the midwife services contract, clearly shows how different the realities are in various care models: while for many midwives, economic existence is acutely threatened, for others, different hurdles are paramount – and both perspectives are simultaneously true.

Fair working conditions are not special requests, but the absolute prerequisite for this profession to be practiced sustainably, safely, and healthily. The MORE MIDWIVES label was founded by midwife Lena for precisely this reason: to bring women's rights, birth rights, and the essential role of midwives unmistakably into focus.

We would be delighted if you make a clear statement with our pieces and bring visibility into everyday life. In a time when midwifery and self-determination around birth constantly have to fight for recognition, it's time to show your stance – show us your attitude!
