Midwife + Feminism / Feminist Midwife? New Collection
Share
What is the significance of feminism for midwives in a healthcare system dominated by fee structures and still largely male physicians? This is why I am a feminist midwife.
Because WE midwives are politely allowed to sit on the sidelines in political and medical decisions, while (mostly male) doctors in committees and at the decision-making table, are allowed to make decisions over our heads.
About birth.
A topic on which we – surprise! – are the experts.
Spontaneous births take too long, bring in too little money,
and don't fit into the flat-rate payment system.
So it is politically and economically marginalized.
Because where the female body doesn't perform,
it has to pay off.
This is not a healthcare system; it is a market,
behind which typically sits a male-dominated executive board.
Who believes the myth that the negotiations for the midwife assistance contract and the endless struggle over our remuneration are not shaped by patriarchal and economic interests?
Decision-makers from a male-dominated medical world have a deliberate interest in keeping us small.
Why exactly keep us small?
Midwifery work is based on deep trust in the female body and its autonomy – a principle that empowers women and thus challenges a system of control and oppression.
We are not just fighting for fair remuneration,
we are fighting against a system,
that systematically devalues female autonomy.
Birth is not a business model.
And the delivery room is no place for patriarchal control.
It belongs to us:
the women, the birthing people, the midwives.
is our brand new collection with Evelyn Höllrigl, aka. little paper plane, who declares war on the patriarchy.
