Getting through pregnancy and the postpartum period without a midwife?
Share
We once asked you whether you could imagine a world without midwives - during pregnancy or the postpartum period - these were the answers. Read for yourself. There were some exciting and important answers [...]
WITHOUT ME!
… I would not have the opportunity to learn such a wonderful and special profession and thus accompany women in such a special time.
...more interventions
WITHOUT MIDWIVES the delivery room is just a room - without any magic and the familiar hands that give security
… I would not have had such positive memories of the postpartum period
nothing flows except amniotic fluid
without midwives....no safe ARRIVAL! :-))
Without a midwife, you are missing your confidant who is always there to support you with advice and help, who champions your strengths and always has an ear for all your feelings.
#midwife
Would a mother always be a patient in the clinic. With a midwife, she can be a woman giving birth
WITHOUT MIDWIVES all alone.
... obstetric care would be less personal, supportive and safe, as midwives play a central role in the care of pregnant women and newborns and a major gap in holistic care would arise.
… no trust
Without midwives... more Caesarean sections
Nothing can be done without midwives.
Without midwives, more trauma, no security
Without a midwife everything is stupid!
...we would be like boats without a compass on an ocean of uncertainty. Midwives not only carry wisdom that is thousands of years old, they are also the bridge between medical progress and the deeply human moment of birth in the modern world. As a midwife-to-be, I know that we are more than just companions - we are those who give trust, who combine intuition with knowledge and celebrate the natural power of life in the midst of technology. Without us, birth would not only be more medical, but also more soulless. Midwives are not just tradition, we are the future.

...not nothing without, but not much...empathy, security, trust in ourselves, and a very big heart
Birth would not be the same. Security and support would be missing.
…pregnancy, obstetrics and the postpartum period would not be the same!
..babies and their mothers are delivered and not born again
...a birth is only a "delivery" and not an event that one likes to remember
....more women/families visit pediatricians, emergency rooms and gynecologists, sometimes with long waiting times for breastfeeding advice, bilirubin checks, fears, pulling stitches, etc. and receive more interventions, e.g. without adequate care, e.g. in the latent phase and during birth (scientifically recorded, factors such as stress due to a lack of staff, a pathological view of birth and pregnancy in healthy women, long journeys to the place of birth, etc. play a role here)
…no support in the phase of becoming a parent! #preventivehealth
…Nothing works….
… no safety for mom and baby
Nothing works without a midwife
....the doctors would be lost
… THE safe anchor is missing
Without midwives… less safe births, more pain, more fear!
….most women would not feel well cared for during pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period!
... everything is stupid! Pregnancy is stupid, birth is stupid, postpartum is stupid, breastfeeding is stupid
… no individual obstetric care.
…everything is nothing
...it hurts more
… more tears
obstetric care would be lost.
Without midwives whose magical touches and soothing words ease the pain, the birth process often feels overwhelming
... there would be no hands stroking your back during birth. No voice telling you, "You're doing great." Without midwives, there would be no such strong trust during birth.
The maternal and child mortality rate would increase massively!
...The psychosocial care of mother and child becomes a luxury! Because midwifery care is covered by health insurance.
… no security!
... we would often be lost - they give us support, knowledge and the security that we need in the most important moments of our lives.
Most births would no longer be safe and secure!
If I were unemployed...
... no empowerment
...pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period would often be too medical. Unnecessary examinations would often be carried out and physiology and bonding would no longer be promoted.
... You would have to trust Google again #dontgooglewithakugel
No beginning with heart and hand.
No children in the arms
Without a midwife… no answers.
...the beginning of a new life would not be so beautiful, not so full of security and safety, not so full of trust in us women and our inner strength.

Without midwives, there is no feeling of security during childbirth.
No spirit!!!!
….we have a problem
… there are fewer natural births
Without a midwife everything is stupid! Pregnancy is stupid, birth is stupid, postpartum is stupid, everything else is stupid!
...important role models and empowering women would be missing!
The mortality rate of children would rise sharply. A midwife has knowledge that often no doctor has. Especially during childbirth.
…one of the most beautiful and important professions in the world would no longer exist
… babies fall to the floor

.... I would not have gone into labor with confidence...
While many women are mega traumatized
there are only Caesarean sections and unfed children.
Is important knowledge & naturalness lost?
…there is no specialist for birth, postpartum and pregnancy.
..an incredibly important person is missing both during pregnancy and during birth.
Midwifery is a soooo important profession
you are important
Without midwives... women would be seen even less
Without a midwife you will not be born!
…No home birth
Without midwives, without me! Without a midwife, no safe birth!
Without a midwife? Nothing is possible!
…we are stuck!!!!
… then with fear
Without midwives, fewer people are committed to the well-being of women* and children / Without midwives, the needs of women* and children are more easily lost in the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
It works, but it wouldn't be nearly as nice
… more birth trauma
nothing works
… without me!
I would have had a much less stressful postpartum period.
… no longer safe and secure obstetric care
There would no longer be a firewall against the arrogance and ignorance of doctors.
