STATEMENT – DO I NEED A MIDWIFE?

Let me put it this way: if midwives go on strike, it's going to be pretty DIY!

And I don't mean that because women can't give birth without us; they can.
However: it is evidence-based that midwives sustainably improve the health of mothers and children. Fewer complications, fewer unnecessary interventions, more safety.

Despite this, I increasingly see midwives being portrayed as "unnecessary" here on social media. And far too few people actually know what we really do. Our work is not a "nice to have," but a central component in pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period, especially from a medical perspective. Other birth workers can hardly provide that.

That doesn't mean we put ourselves above other professionals. But it's high time that our competence becomes visible. Yes, there are also colleagues among us who don't work correctly. There can be many different reasons for this, and I don't want to excuse that at all.
